
During our 25 years of service, the Volunteer Services Council has accomplished the following with the support of the San Antonio Community:
- Provided seasonal and birthday parties, activities, dances and other special events for the individuals served by the San Antonio State Supported Living Center
- Assisted in daily programming through volunteers and funding
- Hosting Annual Living Center Fiesta Event
- Built Volunteer Pavilion Building for the enjoyment of our consumers
- Built Memorial Garden as therapeutic nature area for consumers
- Wheelchair accessible 'People Movers'
- Umbrella of Love Walkway
- Supporting Public Awareness of Mental Retardation
- Refurbishing all homes with new items
The Volunteer Services Council conducts activities designed to further educational and charitable purposes of the San Antonio State Supported Living Center. These include the following:
- Through the help of donations, providing items to facilitate the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of consumers at the Living Center.
- Raising funds and otherwise providing the consumers at the Living Center with those needed services and items (such as Christmas gifts) that the State cannot supply, due to law or limitation of funds.
- Assisting with recruitment and retention of volunteers to enhance day to day operations and increase interaction with the community.
Aiding the Community Relations Staff in keeping the community informed of the San Antonio State Supported Living Center's goals, activities, needs and accomplishments, and aware of its responsibility to the living center and to its residents.
